While World of Warcraft is a predominantly subscription-supported, Blizzard has also managed a roaring trade on their store, selling pets, mounts and cosmetic armor pieces. That store moved in-game in a recent patch and it would appear they’re cranking out new wares in earnest. Less than eight weeks have passed since the arrival of the Enchanted Fey Dragon, but it’s already been dethroned as the must-have mount by with the arrival of a two-headed chimera with iron jaws and afterburners – the Iron Skyreaver.
Bred for war by brutal Iron Horde beastmasters and girded for battle in black steel and smoldering flame, the monstrous Iron Skyreaver suffers only the most fearsome of masters to ride it. Like a blazing comet foretelling doom and fiery destruction, hurtle down from the heavens upon this epic mount to herald your own campaign of conquest!
Yes, it looks as ridiculous as it sounds, and no – the afterburners are purely cosmetic, you’re still capped by your riding skill.
The mount is available exclusively via the in-game store and doesn’t appear on the Battle.net shop, and will set you back £20/$25.
Blizzard probably needs the money at the moment – subscriptions have taken the usual hit at the suggestion their current tier of content, Siege of Orgrimmar, won’t be refreshed for another eight months. Work on the Warlords of Draenor expansion continues, but the company has a long-established history of releasing such content in the winter months.
